No Country: Contemporary Art for South and Southeast Asia, on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York from February 22 through May 22, 2013, will feature work by 22 artists and collectives representing some of the most compelling and innovative voices in South and Southeast Asia today.
Focusing on the region’s shifting spectrum of creative practices, the exhibition traces networks of intellectual exchange and influence, and considers the various impacts of ethno-nationalism, colonization, and globalization on national identity.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who is part of George Gabin’s – Student Retrospective Fundraiser. Over the past week we’ve collected a total of 65 pieces of original artwork and creative from over 50 exceptionally talented artists. The show has been hung with care and you’ll leave awestruck thanks to the talents of Debra Olin and Greg Kitterle.
Sunday, December 4th is the last day of the show which is an initiative and fundraiser to celebrate a master, a mentor and a friend to many. The show/Open House opens at 12:00pm and the Reception will begin at 2:00pm where the culinary talents of Crystal Paris Brown will be revealed. Although the show ends at 5:00pm I hope to extend the offerings online by posting all the work with additional details to follow.
We hope to have George downstairs to the Gallery between the times of 3:00 – 3:30pm. Please try to be punctual and relax with refreshments and fantastic finger foods that will be available at your leisure. I’ve also created a looping slideshow of images paced with music that will give you a sneak preview to George’s show in February at the Chase Young Gallery. Next to the slideshow will be a book to write something special that you’d like to share with George.
If you were able to contribute to the show please try to be present when the reception closes at 5:00pm so you can depart with your artwork if it hasn’t sold. If you can’t be present I’ll store the artwork at my home until we can arrange a day/time to get together.
Thank you again and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the show.
Sincerely,
Michael.

Brickbottom Gallery – December 2, 3, 4 | Open House December 4, 2011 12:00 – 5:00pm.
Happy Thanksgiving! I would like to take this time to let everyone know that this is the last call for artwork for the show at the Brickbottom Gallery and we have a lot of space to fill. I will be at the gallery this coming Saturday and Sunday (November 26 + 27) from 12:00pm – 2:00pm to collect and store the art for the show. Whether you’re attending the Open House or intend to display a piece of art please send me an email letting me know. I will need a headcount to properly prepare the space to hang the show and I’ll also need to send you a Loan Agreement form to fill out. Knowing the amount of attendees will also help with organizing refreshments for the Open House on December 4th. Below is a brief description + all the links and content you need to participate and stay informed. Thank you.
Happy Holidays! The Brickbottom Gallery will be having a special weekend retrospective of students work to celebrate a special man, a passionate painter, a great teacher and a dedicated mentor, George Gabin. The goal is to reunite students and alumni who know George and to have an opportunity to display a piece of your work that beautifully captures your creative abilities. The show will be a fundraiser with a portion of the proceeds going toward materials for George’s show at the Chase Young Gallery opening in February 2012. A catalog for the show is currently being designed and will be available soon.
Drop off dates for the show will be at the Brickbottom Gallery on Saturday November 26th & Sunday November 27th from 12:00pm – 2:00pm. There will be a small label for you to fill out indicating your name, city + state, title of your work, price to purchase and year you went to Montserrat (optional). We will need assistance gathering the work and hanging the show so if we can get a few more bodies to help out during the hanging + drop off dates to make sure the work is stored properly with the form/label completed it would be helpful.

Memories – Art Book
Memories will look at the thoughts and experiences of individuals who have survived cancer, as well as those of people who have lost loved ones. There will be ten stories inside, each looking at one person’s recollection of a particular day in the struggle against cancer. For each of these ‘memories’ a dozen leading artists, illustrators and designers will be creating their own visual response through their art. Two further stories will go ‘open brief’ and we’ll be inviting creatives worldwide to make their own images to accompany the text. The best submissions will go into the book.
That makes for 12 touching stories, and 144 smashing pieces of artwork.

Tim McDonagh spent his younger years growing up in a rural part of America, surrounded by rattlesnakes and snapping turtles which in turn led to his fascination of animals. Tim takes a more traditional approach to illustration using brush and Indian ink to draw the image and then applying limited colour palettes digitally.

About a month ago Illustrator Erika Lugo asked people who visited her blog to mention an object and promised that she would come up with an illustration that included ALL those objects.
Here is the result.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) unveiled the preliminary design for its expansion that will double the museum’s exhibition and education space while enhancing the visitor experience and more deeply weaving the museum into the fabric of the city. The new building will both transform the museum and enliven the city by opening up new routes of public circulation around the neighborhood and into the museum. Completion is projected in 2016.
