Here is an opportunity to look at the behind-the-scenes graphic design work for the movie Beauty and the Beast; a closer look at their countdown social campaign before the release. I like the choice of the font throughout this whole campaign although not used everywhere. You will notice there is a different design depending on the representation of the movie scene. Props to the work from Sean Hobman who is a freelance art director/designer working with the folks from Watson DG who are pretty known in working with various Hollywood releases.

Published on Behance, this is a project in collaboration between Sean Hobman and the mighty folks from Watson DG. They are both located in different location from London, UK to Los Angeles, California.

Fiverr and Ad Age have launched a design competition that challenges designers and copywriters to create an NYC subway ad for C/I, a non-profit that helps underserved communities thrive in the Tech industry. The contest is open to any individual, brand or advertising agency from any country. The winning submission will run in over 300 NYC subway platforms this summer.

One of the most incredible aspects of this program has been watching creative professionals merge their mediums and their portraits to produce “New Creatives” versions of themselves.

There’s something magical about the compositions. As a designer there’s always a part of me in my work, but to personalize my work in this way, to make my work more representative of me, presents an alternative perspective. All of the artists we’re working with are enjoying this experience and are appreciative of our desire to promote their amazing creative output.

Communication Arts magazine has revealed the winners of its 20th annual Interactive competition. Thirty-eight projects were selected by a jury of creative professionals, out of 1,333 entries were submitted to the competition.

This past week I finished a photo shoot in Missouri with a great photographer named Topher Cox. Topher grew up in New York City where he learned his photography skills from the world around him. His father was a photographer and his mother was an art director. As a child his life was on sets, where he absorbed the workings of a photo shoot at the same time he was learning to walk and talk.

Topher continued his photo education by assisting some of New York’s top photographers. Again, he learned by watching and doing. Although he is working as a photographer on his own now he still feels that you never stop learning.

Nearly 4 months into the new year and it has been very productive so I wanted to highlight a couple of interests. Just before the doors closed on 2012 I was fortunate to reengage with a local entrepreneur who opens businesses that many of us just dream about. Naturally anyone creative would want to be a part of his vision/s so I met with owner Ray Willis to discuss ideas surrounding his new business – RC Cars of Boston. We collaborated previously on his identity for Spadafora Choppers so RC Cars of Boston purposefully ties strongly to the Spadafora brand. Spadafora Choppers was a big success so I’m hoping as this new identity continues rolling out it will be matched with equal excitement and praise.

For the past few years I’ve also been working with a great organization named Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. It’s a dedicated team of highly motivated individuals coming together for a great cause. Colleagues I’ve worked with in the past recommended the opportunity which was a chance to give back and help those less fortunate. My charge was to help call to attention and promote an annual sock drive also supported by the Boston Red Sox. I designed a unique logo “One Size Fits All” which was applied to posters, direct mail and online. Additionally I’ve worked with BHCHP to design their marathon T-Shirts each year so it’s more than rewarding to produce creative that really makes a difference.

It’s Not Easy Being Green: Two Designers Exploring Sustainability Worldwide is a new publication by Aart van Bezooyen and Paula Rache that brings together six months of making new friends, photographing local impressions and collecting materials. Together with almost 60 designers, entrepreneurs and change-makers from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan they are sharing personal experiences, project examples and local culture to inspire and enable a more sustainable future.

Aart and Paula started the project in 2011 to get a better understanding of the fuzzy concept of sustainability and its role and importance for design. During 184 days, they were exploring a dozen countries to discover sustainable solutions in materials and design worldwide. During their journey they offered inspiring lectures and hands-on workshops to teach and learn about the local issues and practices of designers.

Andrea Fischman’s editorial, lifestyle and portrait photography captures life in a natural and warm way, inviting the viewer to share in the experience. Unlike photography that seems to have been created, Andrea’s work seems to have simply happened. Fischman, a Skidmore College graduate, also received professional training at the Rhode Island School of Design, New England School of Photography, the Art Institute of Boston and the International Center of Photography in New York.

Focusing on the region’s shifting spectrum of creative practices, the exhibition traces networks of intellectual exchange and influence, and considers the various impacts of ethno-nationalism, colonization, and globalization on national identity.

Dawn herself is actually synesthetic, which in her case means she sees colors when she thinks of letters, numbers, words, memories, and sounds, and associates colors and textures to smells. “If a brand associates with the color blue and the texture of silk, I can make the scent smell like the color blue and the texture of silk,” she says.

Dawn considers her ability a blessing. In “The Scent of Colours: An Artist’s Blessing” she discusses the concept of using a common element or sense to interpret another, and discusses how she applies her synesthesia to create olfactory experiences.

The Center for Architecture and Occuprint invite the public to expand the visual language and cultural expression of the conversation on public space and freedom assembly by submitting poster designs that provoke thought and dialogue. Tahrir Square, Pushkin Square, and Zuccotti Park have demonstrated the timeliness of the conversation.

Participants may submit as many posters / designs as they would like for digital display in the exhibition. Participants are also invited to take part in an open design critique hosted by Occuprint at the Center for Architecture on September 7, 2012.

His book, Look Close See Far, A Cultural Portrait Of The Maya , published by George Braziller, Inc., NYC, is a collection of images and ideas gathered while traveling throughout the Maya region of Central America. Since 1987, he has taken more than 10,000 photographs over a range of landscapes and attitudes in an attempt to make a distinctive portrait of this singular culture. These reveling images are of the Maya Indians and region of Central America, an area both beautiful and complex in its nature. It is a place where the delicate balance between society and the environment dominates life and challenges one’s view of reality. Look Close See Far, A Cultural Portrait Of The Maya blends a unique mosaic of visual details to create a fresh perspective on the Maya’s endangered worldview and disappearing legacy.

Memories will look at the thoughts and experiences of individuals who have survived cancer, as well as those of people who have lost loved ones. There will be ten stories inside, each looking at one person’s recollection of a particular day in the struggle against cancer. For each of these ‘memories’ a dozen leading artists, illustrators and designers will be creating their own visual response through their art. Two further stories will go ‘open brief’ and we’ll be inviting creatives worldwide to make their own images to accompany the text. The best submissions will go into the book.

That makes for 12 touching stories, and 144 smashing pieces of artwork.

It wasn’t until college when Jared started working for his college newspaper that he really got bitten by the bug. “I fell in love with photography and completely immersed myself in it. I was on the track to become a photojournalist and that is in fact what I did for a number a years. I thought I wanted to be Eugene Richards or Sebastão Salgado and tried my best to emulate them, but over the years I started developing my own voice and now my work looks and feels nothing like theirs.”

Boston has a checkered history when it comes to racial issues. For a while I had wanted to do a project that looked not only at racial division but also socio-economic status. I was curious as to how Boston and it’s surrounds dealt with these issues. Mass Ave. is a street that I, like many Bostonians, frequent all the time, but rarely all at once. It wasn’t until I decided one day to drive Mass Ave. from it’s beginning at Edward Everett Square in Dorchester to it’s finish in lush Lexington that I realized this was a perfect vehicle, no pun intended, to begin to explore these issues.

House of Moves captures crash test performance for Lexus “light” commercial
Motion capture and animation company, Vicon House of Moves (HOM), provided motion capture for the :30 ‘Light’ commercial for Lexus that first aired September 7, 2011. Directed by Daniel Kleinman of Epoch Films, the spot was part of the luxury carmaker’s “Engineering Amazing” campaign.

Full-service advertising agency Team One created the concept that highlights the advanced simulation technology Lexus developed in pursuit of industry-leading safety. Through the use of motion capture, the difference in data derived from a typical crash test dummy and the Lexus ‘crash test genius’ are illustrated with tiny dots of light outlining a driver in a slow-motion simulated crash. Production company Epoch Films enlisted Vicon House of Moves for the motion capture and data processing, and a52 to complete the visual effects for the spot.
